We are excited to announce that Springwood Learning Enrichment has been awarded a $15000 NAB Schools First Seed Funding award. This award will allow us to expand the work of the Environment Club through a partnership with a local pet and garden supply store, Rochedale Produce.
A new chicken coop will be built toward the end of this year to house at least 25 laying hens. Students will have opportunity to engage in poultry and egg production studies in a real-life context with expert advice and training from Rochdale Produce.
Students will care for the chickens and package and sell eggs to staff and College families. In the process they will learn about safe food production and accreditation and they will develop skills in business and marketing as well.
Students across the school will be invited to engage in poultry studies and get involved in the project. It is a wonderful development for Springwood Campus and we are very excited about the learning opportunities it will present. |
