Middle School » Curriculum

The Middle School encompasses Years Seven, Eight and Nine. Programs in these year levels are designed to meet the unique developmental needs of students and facilitate a smooth progression for students from the Junior School to Senior School.

Middle School classes are scheduled predominantly in Flynn and Koolyangarra blocks which border the Middle School Lawn. This gives students a “home” area which gives them a sense of stability and security. Many of their teachers also have their staffrooms in these blocks so they are easily accessible to the students they teach.

Year Seven
Students have one principal teacher who is responsible for the core areas of learning. Specialist teachers deliver programmes in subjects such as:

Agricultural Science
Industrial Technology and Design
Japanese
Music
Physical Education
Spanish

Year Eight

Students have two principal teachers. One teacher is responsible for the Mathematics and Science programs while the other teaches English and Study of Society and Environment. The remainder of the curriculum is delivered by specialist teachers. In Year Eight, students study the following subjects:

Agricultural Science
Art
Drama
Health
Home Economics
Industrial Technology and Design
Japanese
Music
Physical Education
Spanish

This ensures that students have experienced most of the subjects which are offered as electives in Year Nine.

Year Nine

Core Physical Education
English

Geography*

While it is an integral part of the larger college community, Middle School has also established an identity and culture which is distinctively its own. This identity is nurtured through events and occasions which are exclusively Middle School focused. Chapel services give students the opportunity to lead their fellow students in worship and prayer while year level and whole school assemblies provide opportunities to acknowledge and affirm the achievements of students. A range of Middle School activities and events also take place throughout the year.
