Music At Calvary (MAC)

".... preparing our young musicians to make a difference in the world."

Our School of Music welcomes the participation of all students in its’ wide-ranging music program. We aim to provide a comprehensive music education program from Prep to Year Twelve incorporating the facilities, teaching staff and communities of Carbrook and Springwood campuses.

Calvary’s extensive performance music curriculum encompasses bands, choirs, string ensembles and various other smaller groups catering for students of all age and interest levels. Students in Junior, Middle and Senior School are all catered for in our many and varied performance groups.

As well as regular classroom music lessons from Prep to Year Eight, students can elect to undertake specialized music studies in Year Nine to Twelve. The opportunity is available for advanced musicians to further develop their talents in Year Twelve by electing the music extension subject available in three specialisations; Performance, Composition or Audiology.

Give it a Go Program
Our Give It a Go Program is the most important initiative for the future of performance music at our College. As the name suggests, this program is designed for students to “Give It a Go” and is available to students in Year Two to Seven for the first twelve months of learning a band or orchestral instrument.

Students enrolling in the program will receive tuition, tutor book, group rehearsals and performances at a reduced levy for the school year. After progressing through this program, students are encouraged to join our Tuition and Ensembles Program to further enhance and develop their music education

Tuition
Instrumental or vocal lessons are available through our Tuition Program. Lessons are taught by specialist instrumental and vocal teachers during the school day. These lessons are offered on a weekly basis in individual twenty or thirty minute time slots. In some cases, and on some instruments, group tuition is available in thirty minute lessons. It is mandatory all students learning through our Tuition Program be involved in the Ensemble Program.

Music levy details are included on the instrumental and Vocal Tuition Program enrolment form. If you would like to enrol for either of these programs, please email the college on info@calvarycc.qld.edu.au.

Ensembles Program
Our Ensembles Program will provide students of all interests and ability levels with opportunities to develop their music skills by playing and/or singing in our performance groups. Students receive acknowledgement in semester reports of their involvement in our ensembles as recognition of their commitment to the life of our College. Students involved in our ensembles are expected to fully commit to rehearsals and performances to the entire school year. Our School of Music is committed to providing regular rehearsal and performance opportunities for our young musicians.

ARTSFEST

Extended tours are organised usually every second year enhance extended performance opportunities. In recent years, our senior groups have toured throughout New South Wales, central and south east Queensland.

In 2007 we embarked on our first international tour; a very successful and rewarding tour throughout the north island of New Zealand.

Involvement in ensembles is a team effort. Everyone shares and benefits from the loyal and devoted commitment to this very public aspect of our MAC program.
