Zoe's Success

Date Added: 24/03/2011

Zoe Thompson, of Year 6 at the Springwood Campus, may look like an ordinary child, yet she has so many interesting ideas to share.  Zoe recently participated in the “Bug in a Book” story writing competition and won first place with her story titled “Carpargia”.  But this is not the first time that Zoe has had success in presenting her ideas to a wider audience.  Zoe was the winner of the 2010 AB Paterson Public Speaking Competition, where she spoke about an issue that is very close to her heart.  Zoe and her family are heavily involved in the Animals Asia Foundation which raises funds and awareness of the plight of moon bears that are inhumanely treated.  Zoe won the public speaking competition with a persuasive speech about this topic.  Zoe has also organised “RSPCA Cupcake Day” where the funds raised from the sale of cupcakes went towards helping the RSPCA to protect the welfare of animals.

Zoe constantly raises awareness of the rights of animals and is an advocate for animal welfare.  Zoe organised a group of friends, called the Mini Moon Bears, to run a 5km fun run in the 2010 Bridge to Brisbane event.  She also participates in events coordinated by Animals Australia, working towards eliminating cruelty to animals in pet stores and circuses.  Her love of animals means that she is against all forms of animal cruelty, even to the point of becoming a vegetarian.  Zoe has the courage to stand by her convictions and we congratulate her for the success she has achieved in all areas.
