Rocklea and Warrick Sheep Show Sensations!

Date Added: 16/06/2010

The sheep and cattle show team had a very busy May Day long weekend. On Saturday May 1 the sheep show team represented Calvary at Marburg Show in the junior and senior judging. The Lee family took out a Trifecta in the Junior judging. Congratulations Georgia (1st) Erin (2nd), and Aiden (3rd) for their efforts. In the senior judging, a past student and helper of our sheep show team, Matt Franklin was in first place with Maddison Lee in Year Eleven coming a close second.

At Rocklea show on Monday 3 May, Calvary was represented by both sheep and cattle show team members and animals. The sheep show team was rewarded for all of the time they have put into preparing their sheep over the last few weeks. The Rams placed 1st, 4th and reserve champion sheep of the show. The older Ewes placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd, 1st and 3rd in the breeder and progeny group, and the Lamb Ewes placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their age class.

One of the Ewe Lambs “Milly” was presented with the supreme champion sheep of the show. Milly was bred by Calvary last year, demonstrating that our Suffolk sheep stud is continuing to improve its bloodlines which is allowing our students to show quality stock.

In the sheep Junior judging and handling classes our students also brought home many ribbons. In the senior judging we achieved a 1st place and a highly commended mention. In the junior judging, out of approximately sixty students, Calvary managed to place from 1st to 5th place. Well done to all of the students who represented Calvary.

The Rocklea show was the first show that our new steers have entered this year. The steers “Ray” and “Louis” are only four months old and had only been halter trained for four weeks prior to Rocklea show. The cattle show team members have been working very hard in their lunch breaks to make these steers lead safely. Their hard work was rewarded, “Ray” placed 3rd in the led steer class, led by Caitlin Smith in Year Twelve. In the cattle Junior judging Natalie Webster and Maddison Lee were chosen to talk about the cattle they placed in a particular order for the judge. Natalie spoke well for her first show and Maddison Lee was placed third overall in this completion.

All of the students and parents that were involved in these two shows must be commended for their hard work and enthusiasm as well as our awesome staff member, Belinda Williams.

Well done team.
